The Apron Strings Book series has a new release today: book number four! We’re moving to the 1950s with Beatrice by Patti Wolf!
You can purchase Beatrice now on digital or paperback. The Apron Strings Series is a string of heartfelt inspirational stories featuring a single cookbook that changes hands to different women from decade to decade, from 1920 to 2020. A new title will released by a different author each month of this year.
My own book, Kristen, is Book Nine (2000) and will be released in September ‘24. I’m looking forward to telling you more as we get closer, but now is the time to introduce you to Beatrice and author Patti Wolf.
First, here’s the back cover copy to tell you what Beatrice is all about:
It's 1950. WWII has been over for almost five years but Beatrice is experiencing her own personal conflict. Ten hour working days at the hair salon have taken its toll on her, physically and spiritually. War years may have ended with daily life transitioning into a new normal, but normal can be a struggle for a 35 year old single working girl.
Her sisters are married and have started families of their own. It’s the “baby boom” years and Beatrice longs for a family of her own. Instead, Beatrice lives with her aging parents and younger brother, Raymond, who carries scars from his time at war in France. Turning toward the kitchen for solitude and joy, Beatrice finds relief from her frustrations. It’s there Mama gives practical advice for life.
During a visit at her local bakery, a neighbor gifts her with a lovely cookbook. This gem opens a new world of baking to Beatrice. As she begins her cooking journey, anticipation fills her heart. Maybe, just maybe, marriage might be an ingredient for her future.
While things are cooking up in the kitchen, Beatrice’s heart is divided between two handsome suitors. Will she find a recipe for true love with advice from mama? Or will she seek Godly direction in prayer?
Here’s my review:
Beatrice is a story set in Milwaukee during the 1950s. Love of family and good food saturate these pages. Charming and sweet, this romance will take you back to another time. I highly recommend!
Get to know the author, Patti Wolf:
Tell us what you enjoy most about writing historical romantic fiction.
What I like the most is doing research for my historical books. Biblical history is something which interests me more than other time periods. If there is any romance in my stories it needs to be sweet and real. True love has more depth than simple attraction.
What are some books or authors that you would recommend to our readers?
I’m having fun exploring indie authors who have taken on the responsibility of doing much more than writing a story. They format, design covers and market along with creating stories for their readers.
Is there anything you would like people to take away from your book?
My stories are rich in biblical truth. There is nothing else that would bring joy to my heart more than my reader to be drawn in a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.
Do you have any odd (writing) habits?
There have been a few over the decades. I use to write everything longhand, on yellow paper and in black ink. Those days are long gone. When an inspiration comes I grab anything available to jot down my idea. I’ve used napkins and old envelopes to house treasured ideas. But now I have my cell phone, which goes everywhere with me to record thoughts. I also design all my art work off my cell phone by using an app.
What is your favorite line from your book?
“If only we could have wings like butterflies our burdens would be lifted high to the heavens, and God’s shower of blessings would fall to our feet.”
These lines appear in my first novel, “Jemi’s Noble Quest”, and appear in the three book series, I Am the Light”. They will reappear in the second series, “When Pages Turn”, which depict the lives of the second generation characters from the, “I Am the Light” series. I hope to release the first book of “When Pages Turn” in 2024.
Thanks for allowing me to share a bit of my writer’s heart.
Thank you, Patti!

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you: wherever he may send you; may he guide you through the wilderness: protect you through the storm; may he bring you home rejoicing: at the wonders he has shown you: may he bring you home rejoicing: once again into our doors.
