How Creativity Changes Us From the Inside Out
I’ve always believed that creativity isn’t just about making things — it’s about becoming. Every time we sit down to write, paint, sing, or create in any form, something inside us shifts. Creativity has a way of stretching us, deepening us, and shaping who we are. In that way, it becomes a spiritual practice — not because of the work we produce, but because of the way the process transforms us.
When I write, I’m learning patience. Stories don’t always come easily. Sometimes the words flow, and other times they trickle, and I’m reminded to stay present — to trust the slow unfolding of things. Creativity teaches me to let go of perfection and embrace the journey, even when I can’t see the end.
Creativity also asks me to listen — not just to the characters I’m creating or the ideas I’m shaping, but to that quiet, wise voice inside. In my own practice, I’ve begun approaching creativity as a kind of dialogue. I settle into stillness, ask a question, and then wait — not with my mind racing for an answer, but with a sense of openness, ready for insight to rise from a deeper place. This practice has changed everything. It’s made my writing more honest and my life more peaceful.
And maybe most importantly, creativity invites us to surrender. We start with an idea, but often the work takes on a life of its own — surprising us, moving in directions we never expected. That’s the beauty of it. Creativity asks us to release control and trust the process. In that surrender, we learn faith — in our vision, in the unknown, and maybe even in something greater than ourselves.
So while the stories I write matter to me, the person I’m becoming as I write them matters even more. Creativity stretches my capacity for patience, trust, and grace. It teaches me to show up even when the way isn’t clear and to believe that something beautiful will take shape. And isn’t that a kind of faith, too?
