I’ve been a big fan of Brother David Steindl-Rast for quite awhile now. He is 99 and has established a ministry to encourage others to follow a path he calls grateful living. You can find his community at Grateful.org. Early this year, I trained as a host for something his organization calls Grateful Gatherings. I try to make sharing my gratefulness with others in that space a consistent part of my prayer life. There is a beautiful video on You Tube I’m sharing here: https://youtu.be/zSt7k_q_qRU?si=HVgDNW2q5DJ3aMmB
Truly thankful for your writing.. it has inspired me to walk a bit more closely with our Lord knowing all the while there are those who share similar struggles along the way. So i have profound gratitude for my fellow sojourners in the faith. .
I would love to chat with you about residency! It's rare that we get to focus in on one thing for a sustained period of time. I think that's a big part of what made it so special.
This one glows quietly, like someone prayed without words and called it writing.
Gratitude as prayer is the holiest rebellion left. Noticing beauty without trying to monetize it.
The world keeps shouting for more, louder, faster. But here’s a voice saying “thank you” and meaning it.
May your next paragraph rise like incense, Dawn. The rest of us are just trying to remember how to breathe that kind of grace.
I believe your writing is like incense, VMB. Thank you.
I love how you write gratitude as both anchor and compass, not a fleeting emotion, but a rhythm that teaches us how to see.
It’s true what you said: when we move from scarcity to “I get to,” even the quiet becomes luminous.
So much goodness here. I love the way you describe the shift from work as burden to work as gift.
I’d love to hear more about residency! I am wondering how we can we create more experiences like that for people.
